28th January 1983: Singer Fury dies
Billy Fury, English pop singer and songwriter, dies after being found unconscious at an address in north London. He was 42.
The singer, born in Liverpool, had collapsed at the address of his parter, Lisa Rosen, in Cavendish Avenue, St John's Wood.
He was rushed to St Mary's hospital in Paddingdon, west London, but attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was pronounced dead soon after.
He had been ill for some time, caused by a childhood illness that had permanently damaged his heart and increasingly affected his health during his later years, leading to open heart surgery in 1971 and again in 1976.
Fury's funeral was held at the St. John's Wood Church a week later, and after the service he was buried at Mill Hill cemetery.
